Food Safe and Care

Unless otherwise noted, all bowls, utensils and kitchenware are food safe and intended for regular use.

Paint:  For color I use milk-paint; a non-toxic paint that has been used for hundreds of years.  Milk paint comes in powder form and is mixed with water for application.  There are three ingredients: lime, casein (protein derived from milk, used as a binding agent), and natural pigments.  The paint I use is made from 100% organic materials, and non toxic, but technically is not vegan.

Oil: The oil I use is a a mix of linseed oil and beeswax composed of 100% renewable ingredients coming from trees, bees and seeds.  No petroleum distillates, other solvents, or their derivatives are added, and are made from sustainable agricultural resources. Linseed oil is a plant derived material, pressed from the seeds of the flax plant. The beeswax used is a by-product of honey production All wood finishes comply with the product safety standards established by the FDA: “safe for food contact surfaces” (FDA 21, Sec 175.300).

Care:  If you want your bowl or spoon to remain in the condition it is when you bought it, don't use it.  All items I sell will age, but if you take care of them they will age like wine, and not a banana.  Try to wash your product as soon as you are done using it with a mild soap and water, or, if you can get away with it, just water.  Do not let items soak.  Do not wash in a dishwasher.  I recommend touching up oiled surfaces once a month if frequently used, using any number of food-safe oils like, walnut, coconut, or even olive oil.
